The 15 principles below reflect the family of Jesus Christ's beliefs and the manifestation of Kingdom business through the Omega Foundation. The role of philanthropy and the impact Jesus wants this foundation to have. The principles guide what we do, why we do it, and how we do it each mandate falls under the authority of Jesus Christ and His biblical principles.

While many of these precepts are fundamental to optimal operation, we will remain vigilant and open to amending them as we grow and learn more about the work of the Kingdom.

Guiding Principle #1: This is a Christ lead foundation driven by the interests and passions of the universal Christian family.

Guiding Principle #2: Philanthropy plays an important but limited role.

Guiding Principle #3: Science and technology have great potential to improve lives around the world.

Guiding Principle #4: We are merely servants, funders, and shapers—we rely on others to act and implement.

Guiding Principle #5: Our focus is clear—and limited—and prioritizes some of the most neglected issues.

Guiding Principle #6: We identify a specific point of intervention and apply our efforts against a theory of change.

Guiding Principle #7: We take risks, make big bets, and move with urgency. We are in this adventure for the long haul.

Guiding Principle #8: We advocate—vigorously but responsibly—in our areas of focus.

Guiding Principle #9: We must be humble and mindful in our actions and words. We seek and heed the counsel of outside Christian authority.

Guiding Principle #10: We treat our grantees as valued partners, and we treat the ultimate beneficiaries of the work with respect.

Guiding Principle #11: Delivering results with the resources we have been given is of the utmost importance—and we seek and share information about those results.

Guiding Principle #12: We demand ethical behavior of ourselves.

Guiding Principle #13: We treat each other as valued colleagues.

Guiding Principle #14: Meeting our mission—to increase opportunity and equity for those most in Spiritual and physical need—requires great stewardship of the money we have available.

Guiding Principle #15: We leave room for growth and change. These 15 principles reflect beliefs about the role of philanthropy and the impact they want the Omega foundation to have. The principles guide what we do, why we do it, and how we do it.

While many of them are fundamental to the way we operate, we will remain open to amending them as we grow and learn more about our work.

GOAL: I GIVE 10% OF MY INCOME ABOVE MY 15% TITHE BEGINNING MY EVOLUTION AS A PHILANTHROPIST

I WILL READ MONEY WELL SPENT: SMART PHILANTHROPY

Giving great amounts of money is not tantamount to great giving. In Money Well Spent, Paul Brest and Hal Harvey reveal that the key to successful philanthropy is not the size of the gift, but rather, the efficacy of the strategy.

Philanthropic endeavors often fail not as a result of considered risk-taking, but because of vague goals, poor strategies, and the absence of feedback to make course corrections. From local, small-scale community efforts to global endeavors such as mitigating climate change, a well-thought out, empirically based strategy can greatly improve the return on philanthropic investments.

Brest and Harvey bring to bear years of experience in strategic philanthropy to offer invaluable advice about crafting and implementing an approach to achieve measurable results. Filled with examples both successful and failed efforts, Money Well Spent helps philanthropists design strategies that catalyze change to benefit the world.

CREATE A GIVING STRATEGY TO DOVETAIL INTO MY INVESTMENT STRATEGY AND QUANTIFY AND MECHANIZE IT...

CREATE A PHILANTHROPY VISION STATEMENT

CREATE A PHILANTHROPY FLEXIBLE/CONCRETE PLAN

Step-by-step look at how to become a great philanthropist.

Step #1- Acknowledge that it`s all God`s from the get go. By right of Creation, it`s all His anyway! You are a steward at best, never the owner. You must have this belief and acknowledgment deep within your heart, mind, and soul... and your wallet will follow.

Step #2- Allow this mindset to push you to the next level. The belief that it`s all His by right of creation keeps you from becoming encumbered, burdened, mesmerized, or dominated by material things. This belief also makes it easier to save more and invest more, thereby providing you with more with which to become a philanthropist.

Step #3- Start giving today! You don`t wait for a certain date to become a philanthropist. Nobody waits until they know everything about investing before they invest...otherwise, as you know, they would never make their first investment! The same applies to philanthropy. Start now! Begin giving gifts above the tithe now. Simply begin!

Step #4- Understand that you evolve into a philanthropist. You don`t jump into giving in philanthropy. You evolve into it. It`s a progression that takes time. Start by giving more and being involved more. Today, I give more than I ever used to, but I end up having more to give than I ever used to, so I give more, and the cycle continues. It`s all part of evolving into a philanthropist.

Step #5- Operate according to your gifting as you learn to give. We all have different spiritual gifts. In addition to being a disciple, servant, and follower of Jesus Christ, I think of myself as an encourager and a giver. I`ve learned to be a giver, and you can do the same. Remind yourself that it`s all His by right of creation and start giving now.

Step #6- Give biblically. I only give toward the things that are described in the Bible. As a result, I am quick to help the poor, but you won`t find me funding something like Public television. I don`t oppose PBS, but I won`t put my money there. What God has entrusted me with I put only toward the efforts that advance His Kingdom.

Step #7- Give with a global strategy in mind. What`s the big picture of what you are doing with your giving? Where is it going? In what ways will your gift multiply itself around the world? Will others outside of your town, state, or country be impacted by your giving? Think bigger than just what you see in front of you... and give accordingly.

With all this said:

  • If you want to get your heart into it... then put your hands into it.
  • If you want to be able to give large amounts... then start giving small amounts.
  • If you want to become a philanthropist... then start giving today.
